ranking the ontario party flavours

there are four mainstream political parties in ontario, each of them have their own colours and flavours we're gonna rank them.

ndp

logo.
all orange version.

we should add squigglies and highlights to links in the blog we think. also add the code that makes the links coloured properaly to fit our coliour scheme.

imediately we notice a trend we'll spot in this first logo: there is a flower with three points. Another trend is using background colours like white and grey as accent colours.

We like the font for the big loud letters, and we like the design of the flower a lot. the font for "ontario" is also pretty good, although we think it would be nice if it had a heavier font weight.

in the bilingual logo, the ontario text is centre aligned, we like that.

grey colouring works sometimes in isolation, although we don't really like it in some applications. we think it is because of where they use orange white and grey and how they go together.

we associate orange with spicy drinks. like, yummy ones. good flavour we like it. unfortunately, pretty much all non water drinks are uncomfortably capitalist, and in ways that you don't think they should be.

we've also seen the yummy orange flavour in solids or semisolids (like in mario maker), we like those more generally we think.

liberals

we think it is funny when the ontario libs are shortened to "OLP" instead of "lib."

logo

don't like this one it is hard to read. the little line over the e looks like a é and the lines and circle being close together m,akes it difficult to read, especially from a distance. the font choice and all lowercase letters, and the letter spacing, all also contribute to making it difficult to read.

it looks kinda neat when it is easily visible and not causing eye strain.

like the circle and font and line in theory but not in implementation here.

i like this one and this one.

the first one just looks fucking sick it's so damn good and the second one is much more readable due to less tails on letters, much larger font size and font weight, and a much less ambiguous line over the E. we are pretty sure the line represents being moderates, and like, if they communicated that with just the little line that's pretty sick.

to be fair we literally never noticed the line until the new logo so.

our favourite part of the 2013 logo is that it is shortened to just a big fucking L when used in small form. the ndp's flower is used for their short form.

we associate red with sugar, and lack of flavour, which, holy fucking shit, we had to force the capitalist bit for the ndp but here just our default association with red flavours perfectly describes the libs.

they are very sweet and don't have much of anything beyond that. centrists with an occasional small socially left lean.

side note the ontario liberals has probably the funniest and most slapstick website of all the mainstream parties. like, the ndp's is okay with some poor colour choice and layout decisions, the greens are clean with some confusing decisions, the tories have very bad colour scheme and somewhat yucky overall design, and libs is very well put together but it has animations that just make us giggle its so funny. we don't actually like the liberals website because it is boring in a very contempory website kind of way but its kinda like a roller coaster kjdsflhgdfg

progressive conservatives

yeah

we'd like to add that this is probably the least useful of the party websites for actually finding important information. it's kinda like ford's campaign style hehe.

logo.
white version.

the second logo would look very pretty on our screen if the flower was just trans blue.

in general not a fan of the flower, it is fairly complex in a small space and the colouring and shape just doesn't feel right.

it doesn't contrast or look very good with the font family or the font colour in the blue version, as well.

we think the font and its weight is the most clear of all the other ones. we liked the other fonts as well but not in the context to how they were used.

we think blue flavours are kinda nasty and not worth our time. gosh the flower is so bad compared to the ndp's.

check out this old logo and this one.

greens

green

the logo is green.

this logo has very late 2000s early 2010s energy we think.

think it is the all lower case sans serif "green," the solid background on the flower, and including the full term "Party of Ontario."

it may also be because of how the flower is designed and the location of the elements.

we don't really like the greens logo. it is kinda boring and difficult to use, although the flower does work well for a small form logo.

think also sans serif all lowercase doesn't look very nice in this size or weight.

green is a boring flavour that can sometimes be all over the place but when it hits it hits really hard. rarely yummy like orange, usually boring and sometimes just not interested.
