Elysia. !!!
we got a new camera and we been having happy with it.
camera let’s all of us change the lens that the camera sees things through, and I and the rest of us can look through it! 🐈🍼
Camera is pretty new. It can make itself a wifi point which means I can look at pictures remotely from it!!!! Neat.
We got new camera because of previous camera break. Really stressful and triggering because didn’t think getting new camera was possible.
The lenses we have are a zoom lens that goes from a super wide angle field of view to field of view close to human eyes' primary focal length! (technically human vision is huge! 200° and not symetrical! but the in focus and most useful parts is much smaller!)! in camera terms this is 18-55mm zoom lens. Also it had optical stabilisation, which is, OH MY GOD, it does so much!!! omg. optical image stabilisation is so unbelievably amazing.
One of us were recording a video of a freight train in between tracks and cuz we were like 1-2 metres away from it, the force of the wind and the shaking from the weight and stuff of train staggered us! Video we recorded had no shaking, our staggering only looked like pitching the camera upwards more.
18-55mm stabilised kit lens
the shutter was open for so long omg. the blur is because we missed our manual focus because no aids and not hand shake. hmph
because of the way the camera works! it actually crops the field of view down to something closer to 25-90mm, without having the optical effects of higher millimetre lenses. Lens that are longer appear to be see things closer than smaller numbers, and it also makes it look like distance is compress between stuff in frame! This kinda sucks for around 50mm becumause it very close to what we see in real life but it just has way smaller field of view!!!!
We also got another lens! a 50mm single number lens that opens up super wide! Got this one about a week after camera. The used listing online said it had a speck of dust in the lens but it looks like it doesn’t actually, it must’ve been on the outside. Also it has some greesy thing in the focus wheel which makes turning the wheel take a good amount of force to move past. Wonder if we can clean it.
This lens is awesome! It opens up to 50/1.8 (really big!!!). Our zoom lens at 50mm is 50 over 5.6, which is a way smaller fraction!! We didn’t expect how much more light really would be let in from the wider opening!!! It’s a lot more!! way more than we could have expected. It’s super convenient realising we have such a wide opening lens on our camera, because it means we need to worry less about low light stuff.
we absolutely love the control over dedicated camera so much. We love!!! We love taking dark pictures, and now that we have a massive opening lens, we can do it a lot more. We think we’ve had a phone that opens up to 1.8 also, but usually the fraction is way worse cuz the camera is so small that a 1.8 opening really isn’t very big anyways.
Low light is way better!!! Yay!!!!
50mm prime f1.8 lens (version 2)
this picture was taken after sunset! without wide lens we would've needed much higher iso.
However, because of no image stabilisation on that lens, we have to be careful about handshake!! The less light outside the more time camera needs to get it! This is rough because it makes it so small jostles are picked up and create motion blur!!!! Since the light comes in from a different spot due to jostle.
We didn’t expect this to be that bad !! Image stabilisation is really amazing.
The lens struggling with auto focus due to sticky makes us have to help it out with manual focus and this is hard on camera. Cool camera like Fujifilm X-T1 (really pretty) show you what is in focus with highlighting, and and also lets you zoom in part of the image before taking it to see if in focus. I love fuijifilm XT cameras! I really want one and maybe it would be better for our system’s health.
Lack of assist is important because can be very difficult to gauge when looking through the lens on the camera. But bad focus becomes very obvious when picture is looked at later. Upsetting!
50mm 1.8 lens also let’s us do more bokeh things before. The bigger the opening, the more bokeh, and the longer the lens, the more bokeh!!! This was super unexpected. We never anticipated how huge a difference having bokeh would be. Camera doesn’t let us preview it like cool cameras do 😣 which makes pictures and exploring it hard.
50mm prime f1.8 lens (version 2)
it was impossible to focus onto what we wanted to, because the stickyness of the focus wheel messed with autofocus and because there is no way to preview manual focus before photographing!!
We also have a old “Adaptall” lens that is only 200mm and 3.5 opening we think. It didn’t come with adapter for our camera but I ordered one online all on my own today!!! it says adaptall 2 but apparently adaptall 2 works with regular adapter. This lens exciting! Right before camera broke we were experimenting with ultra long zoom, like, 200-300 equivalent. This 200mm lens will be 320mm field of few. Very excited to play with it and experiment with it!
50mm prime f1.8 lens (version 2)
bokeh and 200mm lens!
Our camera bag doesn’t actually fit more than just 18-55mm zoom, 50mm 1.8, and our camera. It also isn’t very pretty. Maybe I can buy a cute camera bag all on my own that one of us found. It says that it is waterproof and shock proof and it looks pretty. It’s small also but it’s pretty and would make us more comfortable bringing camera.
At first we hated how ugly our new camera was and it was super duper triggering but we think seeing the 50mm only lens on it makes us feel like it looks cute. We wish it had 50mm field of view also. The lens also has quite a lot of chromatic abberation and it makes tree branches hard to photograph. Apparently lens hood can help! Apparently it can be removed later with post processing in an editor easily if we don’t like it but we hate having to do things in post.
Having option of editing picture later is amazing. But because we don’t like how our camera makes pictures looks by default we have to tell it to give us the raw picture data so we can process it how we want on our own. Very little options to customise the camera’s own processing. Raw files take up a huge amount of space and editing takes loads of time and is really hard on eyes and way less exciting. I wanna take pictures! This and uglyness are two reasons why we really want Fujifilm X-T1 or xt10. Also the former is water resistant which is nice because we get depressed (very bad) when can’t take pictures due to rain. Scared to even try with shelter.
Other reason is also cuz we don’t like a lot of how we have to use camera. There isn’t a level, which disorients us, there isn’t way to change iso without looking at the screen, when the light meter turns off (it does after a couple seconds after not pressing the shutter button) it stops showing you your settings (and also completely breaks the auto setting lock button) and your meter, the jpegs the camera makes look bad and we basically have to manually edit images later to look how we want, the camera is intimidating to others sometimes or gets us talked to like a professional, in general the camera has a very serious and not at all artsy vibe to it, the LCD screen has bad viewing angles, horrible autofocus, no ability to tilt, it’s too big which makes bringing it everywhere with us hard (we do photography in addition to other things most often! this is positive) and this combined with being expected to manually post process everything damages our mebtal health so much and stops us from just taking pictures.
We think last part is so upsetting cuz we find photography art super accessible for spoons and time. When drawing and doing things like graphic and video and other it takes so much time and it’s all just sitting at computer for hours on end. Photography is fun!!! It’s spontaneous and highly mobile. Not being able to bring camera everywhere due to size sucks. There are so many cool ways of carrying camera like wrist strap and satchel but it’s a lot to learn about. We want awrosme bag. And having to then edit pictures later to make them happy makes it so much badder.
If someone has Fujifilm camera with the jpeg presets and doesn’t need it or want it especially much anymore we’d appreciate a lot being contacted, even if it’s not specifically camera or camera line we’re looking at. Fuji mirrorless cameras are really happy sized and have good in camera processing. it would make us really happy; our email is on the homepage.
Also please contact us if you have any information or suggestions that would be useful for us for getting carrying stuff like bags and straps, especially pretty ones and safety information, and also contact us if you have knowledge that could help us! We were gonna say something specific but forgot.
anyways new 50mm lens is awesome! it’s a cute size and it makes cute noises when it autofocusing and having such a wide opening is so awesome. We think using in daylight will be especially fun so we can learn about bokeh and what we like doing with it. We can make the opening go smaller and this is probably useful for stopping chromatic abberation and make the image more high quality looking, and it also let’s us control how much light comes in! We’d need to get a darkness filter to be able to use bokeh in bright light.
Range of options is cool. Being able to have a shutter speed faster than 1/1000 seconds is cool. Being able to set Iso higher than 400 is cool. Although we don’t like how iso noise looks on this camera nearly as much as old camera. Old camera uses a “CCD sensor” which you don’t need to know what it means, just that it makes high ISO noise look like film grain due to the way the hardware looks. Higher iso on new camera, which use “CMOS sensor” look bad to us. We or at least I understand why modern photography people always talk about how undesirable noise is, although we still think it’s kinda overblown. We get it though now.
18-55mm stabilised kit lens
we can remove noise really well in editing but we wish we didn't have to. in this we removed a lot of the really bad noise and then kept some red coloured noise and grey noise. we also made a version with less noise but we like this version more i think the red noise is good.
Having camera has been exciting and is helping us engage with world around us in meaningful and active ways! We forgot how important it is for mental health. We want to try and avoid seeing world from perspective of photography and to avoid going out to “try and take picture” (although size of camera make this very hard because needs to do lots to carry camera with us..). Photography only fun when we take pictures when we want. When we have idea! Like GameCube controller in tree. Or train picture at sunset!!!! Fun. Also no idea but have spontaneous pictures!!
18-55mm stabilised kit lens
wide angle
We’ve been feeling inspired overall by using wide angle lens length, which we usually struggle using in the past. We also feel inspired by using single length lens with wide opening!!! challenging ourselves. Lots of things to explore with that, lots of exciting! We just don’t want our pictures to be tokens. Our photography page is really good because it gives us different areas and types of things to explore, and we can share ideas we have for those categories and then search for ways to express that.
We’re also enjoying taking pictures of people in urban places. It’s so fun. We found pages and videos online about it, and it seems so active and social and really spontaneous, although size of camera makes it difficult to carry in protected bag while we move around spontaneously and quickly and cooly. Wrist strap probably good. We love running and jumping around., and moving our body.
We wanna picture everything! Need more storage spaces. I love camera lots. Really hope we don’t ruin photography by tokening it and forcing ouselves tto do it, becuase it really helps with isolation and negative feelings and disassociation/derealisation. We think camera size and other usage things makes this hard.
I wanna take pictures of cats and I wanna have roll on the grass and crawl around so much. My paws are so pretty and wide.
Current picture ideas include kitties and ride on train and take pictures with camera. Having interchangeable lens us so fun. Don’t like how the unlock lens button is right where we place our finger while using camera. I love trains and places and people also I wanna spend time with people I want this so badly.
Also we love fighting games that’s other main special interest right now.
We are so happy we have camera. Meow. Hope pictures in this page aren’t tokens.
Originally we wrote huge webblog going into details about our new camera and thoughts, but it was extremely long and exhausting and intimidating. Lots of different system members partiicpated in writing except way we wanted to write about new camera was linear so having bunch of different perspectives talking nonlinearly was overwhelming.. I think it would be good for us to write something small and happy And then expand on it later and individually when we want to, instead of trying to do everything at once. Also lets us talk about things at more natural pace. Yay! Meow. Loveyou!
one of favourite ideas is making subpages on photography page about like lenses and different ideas. in general want to separate photography into multiple pages to make it more plural and diverse also we really want a baby blue background and pink accent and cool visual theme that is fun and exciting and calmming. also it would make indiidvudal pages load faster.
manual focus assist like on fuij camera we looking at would make it so much more affordable to get lenses cuz manual focus lenses are really cheap
we'd like to make a post about how to get camera things accessibly but no spoons right now. just keep in mind that basically all reviews online are made by priviledged rich people and that they are looking from a professional and not a artistic perspective, and that cameras themselves are basically all the same.
also we didnt really talk about how camera feels to use but it's generally not great user interface and experience just not sure how to articulate
